| kumatha June 16, 2004 10:04 AM PDT Good thinking! Simple answer: Our India is the land of "Gomatha" (the holy Cow!) You have noted the cows flee together one behind the other. When one cow walks on grazing, the other cows follow it. So, it is quite natural that when somebody shows his/her success in a particular field, the others too follow that example! When there is opportunity for the graduates of a particular branch of engineering, many others follow the suit! The result is that the demand for that particular branch jobs gets reduced along with reduction in salaries and ultimately no demand at all! You have seen some films clicking the box office with a particular theme and cast. Other producers start making films with similar themes and same cast. What I am coming to say is that the birth of so many engineering colleges (more medical colleges can be expected in the near future) is the result of the Indian mentality for copying others' ideas which have proved succes! The government doesn't want good education; but only (black) revenue from the educational businessmen. You have recently noticed the ongoing war between the government and owners of private engineering and medical colleges and also IIMs for the control of fees and donations from the students! Where do we, Indians march? To hell, of course, without a proper planning on our education system! | ||
| GiriGopal June 15, 2004 12:49 AM PDT Why the Fuck the government of india is opening so many engineering colleges , one in every street? Why no body debates about it? There are no jobs for existing graduates? what is the plan of the governm, ent?? do you know? | ||
| kumatha June 3, 2004 05:04 AM PDT Dear Muniya, Congrats first for launching an arena for such intellectual discussions! Regarding the subject "Antaratma or Inner Voice" of Sonia Gandhi, I think it is neither of them, but only her practical wisdom. She knew that she has not matured enough to handle the topmost post in govt. of this huge country. Afterall, a model, came to London to learn English and to fetch some lucrative job there, then fell in love with a fair and wealthy young man (Rajiv) and got married (thanks to the broad minded Nehru family).. Sonia can not hope for such a high post. She is very well conscious of her drawbacks. The only praiseworthy point in her decision to refuse the PM post is that she did not succumb to the usual sycophancy of her party leaders! A good article. Keep on writing...! | ||
| rajaram May 31, 2004 10:13 PM PDT keep writing such articles. its intresting | ||
| Namesavithri narayan May 31, 2004 12:11 AM PDT fine.interesrting reading.views on important issues does need serious thinking. keep it up.we follow | ||
| Name nagarajan May 30, 2004 03:54 AM PDT dear muniya, it is a well written article I am concerned with what Sonia did than why she did it;whether it was a sacrifice or with innner agenda time will reveal; right now what she has done seem to be healpful to the country's stability regarding the type of govt, I feel that education / literacy level should improve which may eliminate most of problems faced by the present system. However the question raised by you is very valid and needs deeper analysis. In this context I am reminded of the quote" In democracy you will get a govt you deserve" keep up your good work which will pick many middle class brains | ||
| muniya May 29, 2004 01:15 AM PDT It seems we agree that democracy is best for India. But bettar players should get involved. Fine-Easier said than done!. Now its the duty of honest Educated/learned Indians to actively participate in politics instead of making Arm-cair comments or comments at Blog sites. Regarding Sonia other than congress most of the Indians seem to feel its not a great sacrifice!! | ||
| Alka May 27, 2004 08:27 PM PDT Sonia Mata made a supreme sacrfice like Gautam Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi. One should not question the supreme sacrifice of such a great soul. Now instead of going to Vaisno Devi, people can go and prostate before 10 Janpath. They will earn the same amount of Punaya. | ||
| muniya May 26, 2004 07:56 PM PDT THANKS for the valuble comments. Yes Sonia may be confused or others might have confused her. Regarding democracy to be effective the population should be educated. Should we think of educated Indians representing small groups like Panchayat vote en bloc for that group after arriving at consensus. | ||
| the filler man May 26, 2004 10:18 AM PDT Hello Muniya: Nice to see your post? Why the moniker Muniya? As far as Sonia Gandhi's decision goes, I don't suppose we will ever know why she made the decisions she made, unless she comes out and explains it herself. However, you make a great point about whether the Indian population is mature enough for democracy? Democracy is a complicated business that goes way beyond simply voting at election time. As I read somewhere, it is the hardest form of government because it requires the citizens to be involved at all times. I think democracy itself is the best alternative, however, we will have to fashion the kind of democracy we want, and work at educating the people in how to use the democracy. | ||
| Atom May 26, 2004 09:35 AM PDT Very thought-provoking. Could it be possible that Sonia herself doesn't know the precise reasons behind her decision? It could have been a cumulative result of a number of factors, some of which she herself may not be aware of. Sometimes an inner voice dictates to us, and we follow, without a clear idea of why we are doing so. Perhaps Sonia should put to herself the questions you have outlined with so much clarity. | ||
| Queer May 26, 2004 09:13 AM PDT Good one! I agree with you, edu, health and a better standard of living should be our goals, in that order. Once you get a primary education, the others will follow. Nice start! And welcome! | ||
| silo May 26, 2004 08:53 AM PDT There is no problem with the political system. Infact its probably the best in the world. However, we should hope for better players (politicians) in the system. | ||
| Skeptic May 26, 2004 08:36 AM PDT Do you think poverty removal, primary education to all, health , minimizing corruption is feasible by 2020? Realistic? I think Democracy is the best for India. | ||
| AmitL May 26, 2004 03:06 AM PDT Hi,Muniya. Thanks for dropping by..Nice first post, though it's a topic I usually avoid-politics. Acc. to me,the whole issue of 'will she, won't she' where Sonia's PMship was concerned, was a big sham, just to get herself projected as the ever-sacrificing lady.I wouldn't be surprised if she suddenly becomes PM in the coming few months, giving Manmohan Singh some more 'important' post. | ||
